- Pulp in the green across all regions: Klabin sets new prices in Europe (USD 910/t) and North America (USD 1,140/t) for BEK pulp and to follow suit in Asia. US prices set for further gains as softwood supply shock in the South from the Arctic Blast that saw three producers temporarily shut production.
- European graphic paper price increases are yet to materialise, the CWF/pulp spread remains in negative territory: APP Indonesia announced a USD 100/t increase for all fine paper grades, citing continue pressure from pulp & shipping costs.
- Further gains for kraftliner and more price increases on the cards: Kraftliner was up 0.6% w/w, while testliner was stable. SCA confirmed a price increase of EUR 50/t from April 2021 in Europe for white and brown kraftliner. SAICA to increase testliner grades by EUR 50/t (10-11%) in Europe (incl. UK and Iberia) from 16 March. This is on the back of “continued robust demand and increased input costs”.
- Recycled brown pulp (RBP) up 55% y/y: RBP increased by USD 30/t in February to USD 480/t CIF delivered to China. Pricing momentum continues following the wastepaper ban in China.
- Further kraft paper prices increase in the US: Premium 1 Papers (# 2 in North America), Georgia-Pacific (#3 in North America), and Hood Container set price increases of USD 55-60/t effective March/April for bleached sack kraft grades.
