- Pulp set to make further gains: SW was up 3.4% w/w in Europe and HW was up 3.6% w/w in China. Further announcements: Suzano raises BEK pulp to Southeast Asia and Middle East to EUR 600/t (effective immediately). This is on the back of rising shipment costs and limited shipment availability for some regions. Additionally, Metså Fibre to increase prices of NBSK to USD 800/t in Asia (effective immediately).
- Graphic paper in the red but price increases now on the cards: Sappi Europe to increase CWF and UWF (sheets and reels) prices by 8-10% from 1 March in all European markets. This is due to “cost pressures from raw materials and logistics”.
- Containerboard sees further gains and the market is heating up further: Kraftliner and testliner were up w/w (0.6% and 1.7%, respectively). OCC jumped 6% w/w to EUR 109/t, up 155% y/y. SCA announced a EUR 50/t brown and white kraftliner price increase (effective February), citing “very strong demand”. Klabin too announced a price increase of EUR 50/t in Europe (effective February), citing “rising freight costs and raw materials and strong demand”. Hamburger containerboard announced a EUR 50/t increase for testliner (effective February), citing “strong demand”.
- Positive read-though for Sappi North America: Evergreen Packaging, Clearwater Paper (3rd largest SBS producer) and Graphic Packaging (2nd largest SBS producer in North America) have announced a USD 50/t increase for solid bleached sulphate (SBS) paper board effective 1 February.
